IADMS members attending the conference can join Amy Werner, DPT, and Ellové master instructor, Laura Haney for their presentation, ‘Integrating dance injury prevention, fitness, and recovery with The Ellové Technique®’ on Friday, October 25 from 4:30-5:30.
Participants will hear a brief lecture about integrating dance-specific injury prevention with cross-training, followed by a movement session in The Ellové Technique®. Incorporating therapeutic principles, ballet, yoga, Pilates and fitness, participants will experience how dance medicine complements the aesthetics and alignment fundamentals essential to dance. Supplementary Ellové cross-training, when taught by dance trained, certified instructors using choreographed exercises, can support dance science principles and artistic development. The benefits of resistance training specific to dancers is well documented: improving muscle endurance, movement efficiency, and balance; enhancing performance while minimizing risk of injury; optimizing recovery using dynamic stretching techniques; and enhancing longevity of a dancer’s career. The Ellové Technique brings all of these concepts together in one innovative, seamlessly flowing class set to music. Participants will leave with an enhanced understanding about how dance-specific fitness programs can better support the needs of today’s dancer. Appropriate for all levels of fitness with modifications given. Please wear clothes that allow movement. No props are required.
